Speech-Language Pathologist

Standard License
- Eligibility: Any applicant meeting educational and certification requirements and seeking to practice as a Speech-Language Pathologist in Nevada or treat Nevada residents, regardless of residency or licensure status in another state.
- Education: Must hold a master’s degree from an ASHA-accredited educational program.
- Certification: Must hold current ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP).
- Examination(s): None required.
- Jurisprudence Exam: Not required at this time, however an optional exam is currently offered with plans to make this mandatory in the near future. All current and potential licensees should be familiar with the practice act and rules under which they are applying or licensed to work.
- Reciprocal Licensing: An applicant for a Standard SLP license, including an active member of the military, veteran, or spouse/surviving spouse may request Expedited License by Endorsement in the online application if they meet all three criteria listed below:
- Hold a current, corresponding valid and unrestricted license to engage in the practice of audiology in the District of Columbia or any U.S. state/territory; AND
- Have no history of licensing discipline/investigation in the District of Columbia or any U.S. state/territory in which they hold/have held an audiology license; AND
- Have no history of a civil or criminal malpractice action in the District of Columbia or any U.S. state/territory.
- Term Limit: No limit.
- License Renewal: Expires 1 year from date of initial licensure and may be renewed annually. The license renewal period begins 60 days prior to expiration date; late renewal is allowed up to 30 days past expiration with additional fee. After 30 days a Reinstatement Application must be submitted.
- Continuing Education Required for Renewal: At least 10 hours annually based on the license expiration date and directly pertaining to the SLP profession. At least 1 of the 10 hours must relate to ethics, cultural competence, cultural humility, culturally responsive practices or diversity, equity, and inclusion. - Official academic transcripts must be sent directly to the Board via mail or electronically from the educational institution. (Note: These are not required if requesting Expedited License by Endorsement).
- ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) must be uploaded in the online application.
- Verification of licensure in another state (if applicable) will be completed online by Board staff. If not available in your state, please request an official license verification to be sent directly to the Board office via mail or email.
- Military affiliation documentation (if applicable) must be uploaded in the online application to receive a 50% discount on initial licensing fees.
Application & License Fee: $250.00
Temporary License
- Eligibility:
- A Speech-Language Pathologist licensed in another state and seeking to practice in Nevada or treat Nevada residents for less than 12 months, regardless of residency or licensure status in another state;
- OR
- A military-affiliated Speech-Language Pathologist licensed in another state and seeking to practice in Nevada or treat Nevada residents, regardless of residency or licensure status in another state, and intending to convert to a Standard license pending receipt of Standard license documentation. (Note, these applicants are eligible to instead apply for a Standard license with Expedited License by Endorsement.)
- Education: Must hold a master’s degree from an ASHA-accredited educational program.
- Certification: Must hold current ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP).
- Examination(s): None required.
- Jurisprudence Exam: Not required at this time, however an optional exam is currently offered with plans to make this mandatory in the near future. All current and potential licensees should be familiar with the practice act and rules under which they are applying or licensed to work.
- Term Limit: May not be held longer than 1 year.
- License Renewal: Expires 6 months from date of initial licensure. May be renewed once for one additional 6-month period upon approval. Not eligible for late renewal.
- Continuing Education Required for Renewal: None required as this license may only be held for a maximum of 1 year.
- Conversion: May be converted to a Standard license at any time upon payment of conversion fee. More information may be found on our Conversions page.

Provisional License
- Eligibility: A graduate of a school of speech-language pathology who is completing the clinical fellowship year (CFY) requirements to earn the ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) and seeking to practice as a Speech-Language Pathologist in Nevada or treat a Nevada resident, regardless of residency or licensure status in another state.
- Education: Must hold a master’s degree from an ASHA-accredited educational program.
- Certification: None required.
- Examination(s): Passing score on the PRAXIS exam.
- Jurisprudence Exam: Not required at this time, however an optional exam is currently offered with plans to make this mandatory in the near future. All current and potential licensees should be familiar with the practice act and rules under which they are applying or licensed to work.
- Term Limit: May not be held longer than 3 years.
- Renewal: Expires 1 year from date of initial licensure. May be renewed annually for 2 additional 1-year periods. The license renewal period begins 60 days prior to expiration date; late renewal is allowed up to 30 days past expiration with additional fee. After 30 days a Reinstatement Application must be submitted.
- Continuing Education Required for Renewal: At least 10 hours annually based on the license expiration date and directly pertaining to the SLP profession. At least 1 of the 10 hours must relate to ethics, cultural competence, cultural humility, culturally responsive practices or diversity, equity, and inclusion. Application & License Fee: $250.00
Limited License
- Eligibility: A Speech-Language Pathologist who is licensed in good standing in another state and will be demonstrating using clients or patients as a presenter/instructor at an educational presentation, seminar, or educational setting in Nevada. Note: This license is only intended for use in an instructional setting and does NOT allow short-term practice.
- Education: Must hold a master’s degree from an ASHA-accredited educational program.
- Certification: Must hold current ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP).
- Examination(s): None required.
- Jurisprudence Exam: Not required at this time, however an optional exam is currently offered with plans to make this mandatory in the near future. All current and potential licensees should be familiar with the practice act and rules under which they are applying or licensed to work.
- Term Limit: May not be held longer than 15 days.
- Renewal: Expires 15 days from date of initial licensure. May not be renewed.
